A Fourteenth Door That Breathes: “The Fourteenth Room” — Veil Tales Part 1

A house with thirteen rooms. A fourteenth door that breathes. 🗝️

Veil Tales is my serialized gothic mini-movie — a story told 60 seconds at a time, and every episode ends somewhere you won’t expect. Part 1, “The Fourteenth Room,” opens the series: a housekeeper is hired to clean a house with thirteen rooms, in order, and never count them twice. On the first night, she counts anyway.

Transcript

They hired me to keep a house with thirteen rooms. Clean them in order, the letter said. Never count them twice. The first night, I counted anyway. Thirteen doors along the landing. Thirteen keys on my ring. I slept. At three in the morning, something knocked from inside the wall. I counted again, the way you check a lock you know you locked. One. Two. Three. The doors had moved. And between the nursery and the linen room stood a fourteenth door. It was warm. And from underneath it, breathing. I have cleaned this house for nine nights now. The door is still there. Tomorrow, I open it.

  • The Illusion of Freedom

David White’s Willow and Kiana Jimenez’s Binds reveal the paradox of freedom and captivity. The weeping willow’s branches drape like chains, echoing the poem’s lament of unseen binds. Yet both art and verse insist on resilience, reminding us that even in sorrow, a fragile thread of hope persists.

  • Beyond Right and Wrong

    Beyond Right and Wrong

This exploration of ethical theories—spanning subjectivism, utilitarianism, divine command, and beyond—connects philosophy to lived experience. Through history, examples, and reflection, we consider how morality shapes culture, faith, and personal identity. On Poetic Bipolar Mind, ethics becomes more than theory; it becomes a language for art, healing, and human dignity.

  • The Price of Survival

Jonathan Swift’s A Modest Proposal exposed a world already devouring its poor. Centuries later, the feast continues—more civilized, more hidden, but no less cruel. The Price of Survival reflects on satire, power, and the grotesque truths we live, turning grief and silence into resistance through the act of writing.
