The Promise I Keep Breaking: “Powdered Promises” — Podcast Season 1, Episode 6

Woman in a dark robe looking at her reflection in an ornate mirror

A new episode of the Poetic Bipolar Mind podcast is live. Season 1, Episode 6 — “Powdered Promises” — is a spoken word reading by Kiana Jimenez, narrated in the show’s weekly short-poem strand.

“Powdered Promises” is about the vow you keep making and breaking — the “just one last time” whispered at the mirror, the calm you pretend to feel, and the apology waiting at the end of it, owed to the person who loves you most.

Powdered Promises

Spoken word poetry by Kiana Jimenez.

“Just one last time,” I whisper—then pretend,
As though a promise guarantees an end;
I reach again for something sweet and brief,
A borrowed hour disguised to look like relief.

It gathers me beneath its velvet haze,
And hushes every hurt for several days;
For one small while, the noise inside grows still,
And I mistake that silence for free will.

The mirror keeps the truths I leave unsaid—
These weighted eyes, these mornings filled with dread;
My trembling hands betray the calm I feign,
While every vow comes circling back again.

“Just one last time”—the phrase I know by heart,
A little lie that always plays its part;
And if my mother asks, just tell her when—
I’m sorry, Mom. I broke my word again.

  • Rage, Acceptance, and the Light

    Dylan Thomas’s Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night demands defiance against death, yet it raises a paradox: is it better to rage or to accept? This reflection explores Thomas’s urgency, the ethics of resistance, and how Poetic Bipolar Mind embodies both rebellion and peace in the face of mortality.

  • Binds

    Binds

    Ice burns through the chest, freedom becomes a cruel illusion, and binds linger even when the shackles are gone. Binds captures the ache of emptiness, the weight of choices, and the haunting question of whether escape truly exists. Yet, amidst despair, hope flickers faintly in the mist.

  • My Door’s Key

    “My Door’s Key” opens the locked door to depression’s hidden battles. With raw honesty and vivid imagery, it reveals the weight of mental illness, the silence behind the smile, and the courage it takes to seek healing. A poem of pain, vulnerability, and the hope for connection.
